Clean Glenwood Day
(in conjunction with Clean the Bay)
0900-1200, 11 June (Saturday)

Organization, planning, & executing were completed with the assistance of the Recreation Committee, Teen Group, and the Parks & Lakes Representatives of Glenwood Community Association.

Many thanks to the Rec Cmte Members for the superb preparation and production of food/drinks throughout the day & thank you for completing the Certificates of Appreciation for the volunteers. And thank you to the Teen Group who volunteered in setting up, covering registration, food support, picking up trash, and cleaning up the Community Center. Would like to also thank South Beach for volunteering their time to move the orange trash bags to the pre-arranged trash pick-up sites.

101 volunteers; 41 Glenwood residents, 2 boy scout/cub scout packs, & a team from AIMD NAS Oceana.

With more Glenwood residents volunteering next year, the more area we can cover. Covering 8.5 miles (3rd largest in VaBch), and by following the Chesapeake Bay Foundation Save the Bay Data Card, we collected:

  • 537 Cigarette Butts
  • 993 Pieces of Plastic
  • 111 Pieces of Glass
  • 275 Pieces of Styrofoam
  • 349 Pieces of Aluminum & Metal
  • 539 Pieces of Paper
  • 002 Pieces of Furniture
  • 009 Pieces of Fishing Debris
  • 045 Pieces of Construction Debris
  • 001 Tire
  • 066 Other: Retainer, baseball glove, balls, bike, etc.
  • Totaling 1,357 lbs of trash.

All in all - great day. Look forward to next year (maybe a little earlier in the Spring). Glenwood residents feedback is always welcome.
